Sullivan County is blessed with a warm, kind hearted citizenry that has always prided itself in being progressive in the opportunities it offers to our children and adults as well as knowing the importance of providing amenities for visitors who are warmly received.

     The county has a wonderfully modern hospital with an experienced staff of professional, courteous, physicians, nurses and technicians. Sullivan County has an exemplary ambulance service and has just recently become a part of the Air-Evac system for the more critical cases to quickly get to one of the closest trauma centers should an emergency arise.

     There are numerous civic clubs and organizations available throughout the county that strive for community betterment, and provide our local citizens with meeting halls, activities and provide funds for charitable purposes, raised through their efforts.

     We have a handful of small locally owned hotel/ motel facilities in the county, which are always open and eager to welcome visitors. Some with rich histories like the Hotel Stanley built at the turn of the century and still holding the old world charm. Of course there are the more modern facilities like the Milan Motel, Green City Hotel, and Waugh’s Bed and Breakfast.

     Sullivan County offers shopping facilities with grocery stores, variety stores, dollar stores, lumber yard, electronics, feed and fertilizer, farm equipment, hunting supply stores, auto parts, appliances and furniture stores, antiques and collectibles, beauty shops, and a host of others. Also available locally are towing services and repair facilities for those unfortunate times when such services might be needed. The county also has several very good restaurants, offering a variety of cuisine with most serving traditional American dishes.

     Also available in Sullivan County is public transportation, banking facilities, a Senior Center that serves a hot lunch every weekday, delivering to those who are homebound. A very good newspaper in the Milan Standard, a public library, which proudly offers a sizable collection of children’s books, fiction, non-fiction and more for adults, and research facilities with a great genealogy and history collection. One can also find a genealogy library, and historical museum as well as nearly any denomination Christian church one might desire. Sullivan County also has a fine Latino Center located on the square in Milan.

     Each community offers from one to several meeting facilities with several, offering community centers that are available to rent at reasonable rates for reunions, meetings and family gatherings. Humphreys, Winigan, Milan, Green City, and Pollock, all have such facilities. Greencastle has the “Opra Hall”, Milan is also proud of our Rebekah’s and the American Legion, both of which offer their facilities for rent for special occasions.

     The county has not forgotten other recreational needs either. Golf, bowling, a movie theater, summer softball and soccer, a swimming pool and several historical places are available. The restored depots in Milan and Green City are two historical sites we are very proud of. Sullivan County is truly blessed with people of amazing talent. To try to list them would be an insult to the ones that would no doubt be missed. Suffice it to say we have gifted actors, artists, authors, furniture artisans, musicians, and vocalists. This list could go on and on including crafters, quilters, photographers and more. At nearly all local events, you will find talent galore.
